TL;DR: On November 5, 2026, United Airlines said Starlink Wi-Fi is now on more than half of its daily flights, and that it expects to finish installing Starlink fleetwide before the end of 2027. The numbers came in a release about a separate feature: passengers can now log in to their own Spotify account on seatback screens. This is United's own statement, not a SpaceX or Starlink announcement.

What United said

In a November 5, 2026 release, United and Spotify announced that customers can stream their personal Spotify account on United's seatback screens. A passenger opens the Spotify app on the screen, scans a QR code with their phone and, once paired, can resume music, video podcasts and audiobooks where they left off. United says it is the first airline to offer this.

The Starlink part is a smaller note in the same release. United says "Starlink Wi-Fi is now available on more than half of United's daily flights" and that it "expects to complete Starlink installations by the end of 2027." United also credits Starlink in the announcement itself. Chief Commercial Officer Andrew Nocella is quoted as saying: "Now, thanks to Starlink, they can watch and listen to their own Spotify content right on their seatback screen."

The numbers, as United gives them

  • Starlink Wi-Fi on more than half of United's daily flights today.
  • Fleetwide Starlink installation expected to finish before the end of 2027.
  • More than 181,000 seatback screens now, about 85% of the mainline fleet, and more than 219,000 expected by the end of 2027.
  • The Spotify rollout is set to reach half of the fleet by next spring.

Why it matters for Starlink

Airline Wi-Fi is one of the places where Starlink's low Earth orbit network is most visible to ordinary travelers. Earlier this week Air Tahiti Nui said it will put Starlink on its whole Boeing 787-9 fleet. United's update shows the other end of that scale: a very large US carrier already flying with Starlink on a majority of its daily schedule.

What we don't know yet

United did not say how many aircraft that is, which routes or aircraft types are covered, or whether Starlink is on the flights that get the Spotify feature first. It also said content and features vary by Spotify plan and market. SpaceX and Starlink have not posted about this announcement, so the Starlink figures should be read as United's claims.
